Sporkworld gets a Makeover

Sporkworld (http://www.sporkworld.org) has undergone a thorough renovation without, we hope, changing the basic character of the site. Formerly orphaned works now have links, and the diverse authorship of Sporkworld's content has been made more explicit. The changes may not be obvious at first, but further exploration will reveal that there are several new sections, dead wood has been removed, and the design of the site has been made more consistent.

Please visit the new video (http://www.sporkworld.org/video)and gallery (http://www.sporkworld.org/gallery) sections.

We have also recently started a new sister site, the Sporkworld Microblog (http://sporkworld.tumblr.com), to publish spontaneous visual and textual experiments by the Sporkworld Team (http://www.sporkworld.org/about.html), along with book, software, and music recommendations. We will add new material to the Microblog several times a week, so please bookmark it and check frequently for updates. You may also view the Microblog (except for videos) on a mobile phone at http://sporkworld.tumblr.com/mobile.

In addition to the Microblog, the Community site (http://www.sporkworld.org//index.php), and the Sporkworld Bookstore, http://astore.amazon.com/sporkworld-20/ (where you can buy books and other items reviewed on Sporkworld), Sporkworld now has its own YouTube Channel, http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=sporkworld. In an effort to participate in new advances in web interactivity, we expect to add more sister sites as opportunities become available. We welcome suggestions of new kinds of web publishing; please send your ideas to [email protected]. If we act on your advice, you will be eligible to receive a genuine Unicorn (see http://www.sporkworld.org/offer.html) as a reward for your contribution to the site.

This seems more like an announcement, don't you think Millie? Would you wish to discuss this makeover or your site at all in more detail? I'm not familiar with Sporkworld. What kind of a website is it?

Hi Max
<What kind of a website is it? >
take a look :)
<Would you wish to discuss this makeover or your site at all in>
Personally I think the categorisation of posts is a guide -my starting point would be that in a *discussion* list about *art* pretty much anything pertaining to *art* could be the starting point for a *discussion*.
In any case unless the thing's being massively abused then I think the fine call of where it goes should be left to the discretion of the poster..the last thing we need is the Rhizome category police.
I'd be quite interested to have your opinion & then perhaps a discussion here about Millie's site - personally I love her work, though I'm not sure even your rather impressive analytical/rhetorical skills can marshall it into ushering in a new art historical era

Oh I definitely don't want a category police either, it's just kind of a mention. I am not really sure why there are almost no direct discussions or conversations on Rhizome anymore. It occurred to me that perhaps if people think the Discussion area is basically just an announcement area, then they might lose their Discussion focus.

Also, Calendar and Opportunity are not really the same as Announcement. It might make more taxonomic and lexical sense if there were four categories, so Announcement could be the place for items that are not really expected to be discussed or presented as a discussion.

But we're up to four now so all is well. I went to check the Sporkworld site and it looked pretty good. I certainly did not want to single out Millie in any way, just trying to speculate about discussion etc.
