THE EMPRESS: MAGIC IS THE SCIENCE OF LOVE

Deadline:
Sat Aug 01, 2015 00:00

Location:
Woodstock, New York
United States of America

The Golden Dome is a nomadic Mystery School dedicated to studying the triangulation between art, science, and spirit for the advancement of planetary consciousness. Each program adopts a figure from the Tarot's Major Arcana as its totem, and focuses its curriculum on cultivating creative practices that sustain and optimize life on Earth.

You and I are the force for transformation in the world. We are the consciousness that will define the nature of the reality we are moving into. - Ram Dass, Be Love Now

The Golden Dome School presents:

"The Empress: Magic is the Science of Love"

The Empress wears a crown of abundance, her eyes are the green of growth, the eagle on her shield represents alchemical rebirth, renewal, and resurrection. She sits at number three in the tarot. This number represents synthesis, resolving the tension created by duality through the birth of a third unifying principle - love. The Empress in her boundless acts of regeneration and creativity represents the Tree of Life. To the Ancient Egyptian Alchemists, the Tree of Life symbolizes the hierarchical chain of events that brought everything into existence; its spheres demonstrating the order, process, and method of creation.

Alchemical thinking is essential to the artist as it illuminates the deeper meaning of process. At the Empress gathering, we will dive deep into the meaning of making, learning to co-create in a world that is alive and dynamic, where everything is part of an interconnected whole - an ecosystem. Many of the chemical theorems in Alchemy began to develop when Stoic thought met ancient Egyptian technologies of metallurgy, fabric dying, and perfume making in the 3rd century. An Alchemist is psychically involved with the creation of an object, mutually exchanging life forces with their materials in harmony with the greater psycho-physical unity of all things, unifying themselves with their work through the magic of love.

We are at an interesting moment in the rebirthing story of planet Earth. Our Industrial Growth Society’s economy depends on an ever increasing consumption of resources. Our precious planet’s body is not only dug up and turned into goods to sell, it is also a dumping ground for the poisonous by-products of our industries. It is time for us to consider our process, and to honor all that our Mother has created.

The word ecology comes from the Greek oikos, which means “house”. It is the work of all human beings to attend to the health of our esoteric and exoteric houses, bridging this duality with the magic of love. We will be living communally in a house in Woodstock for a one week session that consists of a series of heart centered art exercises, daily tarot meditations, Tree of Life meditations, medicinal plant workshops, fabric dying workshops, and lectures offered by visiting artists. All Golden Dome gatherings seek to provide our community with expansive methodologies for reconciling our selves and our work to each other and our world. Please see the syllabus for detailed information on faculty and course offerings, and please review our archive and blog for a sense of what the Golden Dome experience embodies.

Faculty members include: Dr. Neal Goldsmith, Frank Haines, Zeljko McMullen, Linda Montano, Eliza Swann, Christian Toscano, Isabel Wilson

“Yes the miraculous does exist, for life is a series of miracles, if we understand by miracle not the absence of cause, but rather the visible effect of an invisible cause, or the effect on a lower plane due to a higher plane.” - (Meditations on the Tarot, Anonymous)

THE HIGH PRIESTESS

Deadline:
Sat Feb 28, 2015 00:00

The Golden Dome School is a nomadic mystery school dedicated to studying the triangulation between art, science, and spirit. We currently have open applications for our "High Priestess" session, taking place in Joshua Tree from March 27th - April 2nd. We will be exploring automatic writing and drawing and producing a 'zine, as well as presenting work in a Los Angeles based gallery at the culmination of our time together. This program will take place in Joshua Tree, CA in a comfortable mid-century home in the desert complete with tiki bar and hot tub! Applications are due on February 28th or until all places are filled. Visit our website for more information at: golden-dome.org.

"She lets the other language speak—the language of 1,000 tongues which knows neither enclosure nor death. To life she refuses nothing. Her language does not contain, it carries; it does not hold back, it makes possible.”
― Hélène Cixous, The Laugh of the Medusa

The High Priestess represents wisdom, illumination, inner knowledge, and intuitive understanding. In traditional tarot imagery, The High Priestess holds a book in her lap that destines her to study and knowledge - because she is not reading it, we are given reason to think that this volume is nothing other than herself. The High Priestess represents a wisdom akin to vertical memory, which Plato describes as the memory of the transcendent self: “Seeing that the soul is immortal, and has beheld all things both in this world and the nether realms, she has acquired knowledge of all and everything….thus it would seem that research and learning are wholly recollection.” (Plato, Menon 81).

In an effort to mine the wisdom of our transcendent selves, “The School for Psychic and Water Based Mediumship” consists of a week long series of automatic painting and writing activities centered around sustainability, spirituality, and consciousness. We will be exploring desert terrain, engaging in collaborative art and writing exercises, investigating patriarchal language structures and exorcising the alphabet, visiting local spiritual centers, practicing regular meditation, and participating in lectures offered by visiting artists. This series of workshops takes place in Joshua Tree and will culminate in the creation of a High Priestess ‘zine as well as a public presentation of our findings in Los Angeles.

This gathering seeks to traverse boundaries of medium, materiality, representation, and embodiment to provide its community with tools to create vocabularies for reconciling our selves and our work to each other and to our world. How can art contribute to cultural and psychic hygiene for the benefit of our planet? How do art and language function in a patriarchal society? What language do we have for mystery within our current systems? What can we do as artists to enact change? The Golden Dome is interested in fostering a co-creative environment of experimental pedagogy that fosters community, collaboration, feedback, and the collapse of boundaries between life and art. Faculty members include: Liz Armstrong, Genevieve Belleveau, Maja D’Aoust, Ryan Ingersol, Ron Rege, Eliza Swann, and Laurie Weeks.

The Golden Dome Artist in Residence Program: The Magician

Deadline:
Sun Aug 10, 2014 00:00

The Golden Dome is a nomadic school dedicated to investigating intentional living and art making as it relates to cultivating ideas for sustaining and optimizing life on Earth. Each school session takes a figure from the Major Arcana as it’s central theme, and focuses on the study of the spiritual dimensions within the natural sciences and the expansion of these insights into physical art practice.

Ultimately, The Golden Dome seeks to triangulate between art, science, and spirit with equal attention.

Our Fall program takes place in a house in the forest in Woodstock, NY from September 21st - September 28th. Please see details below:

THE MAGICIAN: BECOMING AWARE OF GENUINE BEING-DUTY

"Life is real only then, when "I am".”
― G.I. Gurdjieff

Observe the Magician’s gesture. The Magician’s hands act as a lightening rod - one arm extended up to the Divine for inspiration, the other pointing toward Earth to ground this potent energy and give it form and frequency - the Magician’s gesture indicates that s/he is a conduit for creative miracles. The second incarnation of The Golden Dome School will have a sound based emphasis and will seek to traverse limits for transmuting divine inspiration into vibration, frequency, and tone. Through ritual, consecration, meditation, and movement exercises we will learn to utter The Magician’s words through our art:

“I, the Magician, take a position in the crossroads of eternity and infinity that we call the present. I am loyal to everything that I am: my body, my intelligence, my heart, my creative force.”

- Jodorowsky and Costa, “The Way of the Tarot”

In what ways does the tarot bridge the gap between healing, art, and performance? How can our art contribute to cultural and psychic hygiene for the benefit of our planet?

We are interested in engaging selected artists in a co-creative environment of experimental pedagogy that fosters community, collaboration, feedback, close living, and the collapse of boundaries between life and art. All Dome gatherings seek to provide its community with expansive methodologies for reconciling our selves and our work to each other and to our world. This one week session will consist of workshops, collaborative art exercises, daily tarot meditations, hikes, and lectures offered by visiting artists. Faculty for the Fall program includes Linda Montano, Frank Haines, Irvin Morazan, Eliza Swann, Brendan Landis, Zeljko McMullen, Mollie McKinley, and Ryan Ingersol. We will then create a sound healing ritual based on our findings that will debut in New York City. Please see the syllabus for detailed information.

Through an open call selection process, nine artists who are interested in becoming an Art Mage will be selected for participation in The Golden Dome experiment.

Applications can be found on our website at: www.golden-dome.org - it is free to apply.
