The Golden Dome Artist in Residence Program: The Magician

The Golden Dome is a nomadic school dedicated to investigating intentional living and art making as it relates to cultivating ideas for sustaining and optimizing life on Earth. Each school session takes a figure from the Major Arcana as it’s central theme, and focuses on the study of the spiritual dimensions within the natural sciences and the expansion of these insights into physical art practice.

Ultimately, The Golden Dome seeks to triangulate between art, science, and spirit with equal attention.

Our Fall program takes place in a house in the forest in Woodstock, NY from September 21st - September 28th. Please see details below:

THE MAGICIAN: BECOMING AWARE OF GENUINE BEING-DUTY

"Life is real only then, when "I am".”
― G.I. Gurdjieff

Observe the Magician’s gesture. The Magician’s hands act as a lightening rod - one arm extended up to the Divine for inspiration, the other pointing toward Earth to ground this potent energy and give it form and frequency - the Magician’s gesture indicates that s/he is a conduit for creative miracles. The second incarnation of The Golden Dome School will have a sound based emphasis and will seek to traverse limits for transmuting divine inspiration into vibration, frequency, and tone. Through ritual, consecration, meditation, and movement exercises we will learn to utter The Magician’s words through our art:

“I, the Magician, take a position in the crossroads of eternity and infinity that we call the present. I am loyal to everything that I am: my body, my intelligence, my heart, my creative force.”

- Jodorowsky and Costa, “The Way of the Tarot”

In what ways does the tarot bridge the gap between healing, art, and performance? How can our art contribute to cultural and psychic hygiene for the benefit of our planet?

We are interested in engaging selected artists in a co-creative environment of experimental pedagogy that fosters community, collaboration, feedback, close living, and the collapse of boundaries between life and art. All Dome gatherings seek to provide its community with expansive methodologies for reconciling our selves and our work to each other and to our world. This one week session will consist of workshops, collaborative art exercises, daily tarot meditations, hikes, and lectures offered by visiting artists. Faculty for the Fall program includes Linda Montano, Frank Haines, Irvin Morazan, Eliza Swann, Brendan Landis, Zeljko McMullen, Mollie McKinley, and Ryan Ingersol. We will then create a sound healing ritual based on our findings that will debut in New York City. Please see the syllabus for detailed information.

Through an open call selection process, nine artists who are interested in becoming an Art Mage will be selected for participation in The Golden Dome experiment.
