SelfControl (2009) - Steve Lambert

selfcontrol.gif

Is email a distraction? SelfControl is an OS X application which blocks access to incoming and/or outgoing mail servers and websites for a predetermined period of time. For example, you could block access to your email, facebook, and twitter for 90 minutes, but still have access to the rest of the web. Once started, it can not be undone by the application or by restarting the computer - you must wait for the timer to run out.

This is great. Being someone who works online, I can tell you first hand that e-mail, Facebook, Twitter etc. can all be extremely distracting and can easily kill my productivity. This application is just the thing.

Ok, at first I thought this was ridiculous but after trying it out for a few days I'm actually getting work done. Kudos to the author for posting this.

How do I set the timer? I turned it on, all I see is
00:00:00??

And now I can't access my email for 5 hours!!

thanks

Andrea Goldman June 20 2009 16:59Reply

Problem: I now haven't been able to access the blocked sites for almost 24 hours– there seems to be a bug, since I wasn't able to set the timer, I only saw
00:00:00 forever…

Any body can help?

thanks
andrea
