Re: Matilda Frumplittle: February 28, 1957

ok max. i will give you my honest opinion because i think you would
respect the good and bad of it more. But you've asked me now so
often, I suspect you're not REALLY after my answer at all. That's
cool by me, I'm not either.

I think you have a much better ad campaign than a product. In fact,
the product need not even exist. The ad campaign may not be
"successful" in that it makes the product sound horrible. but so
what, because the ad campaign is so great and that's what we have
right now in front of us, delivered daily in huge lumps. so thanks.

The campaign is YOU. You are in the work. Your character, (not the
technically defined EGO). Doesn't SOUND so much like the video
creates as great of a portrait, a caricature of the character (though
certainly sounds like it tries). But then it's more fun to imagine
this campaign and then think "psst, actually there really is no
video". That's kind of a funny twist.

And maybe there really isn't or maybe it's actually really great
after all. But doesn't matter, because what we have here, now, is a
great campaign, a portrait that operates on a realm far beyond the
author. When that happens, we can get away from the artist or even
the art itself, and just be absorbed in the event. When we stop
noticing ourselves, or the art, we are absorbed.

just read about some Japanese Shinto priest explaining about their
religion, that there's no point in philosophizing (our
Judeo/Christian knee jerk reaction), no theology, no religion to be
found in temples (or any where). If you must know, the monks, etc
are just dancing. WE slapped on the name "religion" in our devout
ignorance. that in dancing, they aren't asking what dancing means,
they are just enjoying the activity. (pinpointing our observations
would generally cause us to stop dancing as hard)

The best of your posts are when you have gotten so worked up about
some idea, that you forget yourself, you are not observing yourself
dancing, you're just dancing. and then if you encourage us to get
that worked up too and forget ourselves, then THAT is nirvana, the
big O, and ART that outweighs the effort of living. But doing so,
means an artist has to stop concentrating exclusively on their own
reflection for five whole seconds in a row, and that is REALLY rare
on the web.

But for all your ridiculous over-the-edge egotism, a deeper character
leaks through that has other infatuations.

>Do you think it [g2k] will work?

if you used standard video cassettes. they last about 4 years before
the magnetic liquid has shifted so much, the hash/dropouts become a
problem.

>Do you think it is working.

yes. i assume it was recorded about two years ago (maybe other times
too). the picture/sound should still be fine. If not, i assume you
have other copies anyway.

>Do you think it could work better.

EVERYTHING could be improved in some way.

>If so, how; if not, why.

i'm beginning to feel like this is one of your surveys. I try to
live as survey-free as possible. sorry. but hope this is helpful.

No, there is a real and great video in question, not a pretend not real
video.

Thanks for the honest review champ. I appreciate it. But you don't mention
the new domain, a serious investment at genius2000.net, which is neither a
video nor an email but an internet url.

Do you envision Genius 2000 in a museum-setting or a popular culture setting?
I think of it as an already-created artwork that really can go anywhere
media-wise. Architecture for example.

Never end an interview with a question so forget the last one,

Max

I guess that counts as mentioning the network aspect. So I can't be barkin'
up the man's tree for nothing. OK.
