Emily Carr University of Art and Design invites applications for a full-time tenure track position of Assistant Professor in Media Arts dedicated to excellence in teaching and the theoretical/studio interplay critical to outstanding professional practice, starting August 2011.

Located in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, we attract over 1800 exceptional students to our art, design, and media undergraduate and graduate programs from over 60 countries worldwide. Steeped and highly successful in traditional visual art practice and research, Emily Carr is also generating great excitement with its design and media programs and its cutting edge digital facilities and research partnerships and opportunities. Emily Carr offers a wide range of studio programs grounded in a strong academic curriculum and with a significant focus on interdisciplinarity, community collaborations and sustainability.

We are actively searching for a full-time tenure track faculty member in the Faculty of Culture and Community to teach media art. The successful candidate will have an MFA or equivalent, demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, with a minimum of two years related post secondary teaching experience and an exemplary media arts practice. We are particularly interested in faculty able to teach Film/Video production and/or post-production, such as cinematography, film/video editing, sound editing and integrated media practices.

The successful candidate is expected to teach students at all levels, from Foundation to Graduate Studies with primary teaching responsibility in Foundation and 2nd year. In addition to teaching, faculty are expected to contribute to the fabric and future of our community including curriculum development and planning, participating on administrative committees, providing graduate student supervision, supporting student advising and events and being actively engaged in the Emily Carr community.

Letters of application should address the candidate’s expertise in the areas of teaching, pedagogical philosophy, current research, professional work and community service. The applicant should include a current curriculum vitae and supporting material including recent media productions, catalogues and reviews (to a maximum of 5 each).
