Interactive Media Design

The Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design at Georgia State University invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track appointment in Interactive Media as part of a four-person cluster hire in New Media to begin August 2011 pending budgetary approval. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications. MFA in Visual Arts or equivalent professional experience required. Demonstrated success is required in publication and presentation of original research, an established record of exhibitions, performances and/or recordings and in external funding.
The successful candidate should be a professionally active visual artist involved in new or interactive media technologies. We will consider the following: digital art, computer graphics, computer animation, virtual art, Internet art, interactive art technologies, interactive design & performance, human computer interaction, performance, interactive advertising, algorithmic art, video art, virtual reality and augmented reality. Consideration will be given to a person capable of teaching a broad range of media, technology, lens-based and/or graphic design courses on the undergraduate and graduate level within a School of Art and Design. Applicants must demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of contemporary and critical issues in visual art, the role of new media and technology in contemporary art (2D, 3D and 4D), new developments in the field of art and technology and an expansive vision of the role of media in contemporary studio art practice. Excellent communication and organizational skills and well-developed collaborative skills are essential to facilitate and develop the new research and programming agenda within the School of Art and Design and with the following departments: Communications, Music and English. Send cover letter, CV, artist statement, catalogues, reviews, publications, teaching philosophy, 20 examples of recent creative work, numbered image list, names and contact information for 3 references, and SASE. Digital portfolios should be readable on a MAC and a PC. CDs should be clearly labeled and contain 2 folders: one folder with images and/or videos of your artworks that are labeled with name, title, media, date, dimensions or duration and one folder with all text files in PDF file format. Videos can be 20 minutes of total view time in AVI or MOV. Images should be in JPEG file format at 150 dpi at 8 inches largest dimension. Hard copies of text files should be included.
