EXHIBITIONS COORDINATOR/FACILITIES MANAGER

The Miller Gallery is Carnegie Mellon University's contemporary art gallery. The gallery produces exhibitions, projects, events and publications, with a focus on social issues. Now in its 10th year, the Miller Gallery is a recipient of a 2010 Warhol Foundation Grant for Curatorial Fellowship and recently published The Yes Men Activity Book. Current and recent exhibitions include Whatever It Takes:
Steelers Fan Collections, Obsessions, and Rituals; 29 Chains to the
Moon: Artists' Schemes for a Fantastic Future; Your Town, Inc.: Big Box Reuse with Julia Christensen; Experimental Geography; Signs of
Change: Social Movement Cultures 1960s to Now, and the internationally touring retrospective, Keep It Slick: Infiltrating Capitalism with The Yes Men. A unit of the College of Fine Arts, the three-story, 9,000 square foot space is free and open to the public and located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.


The Exhibitions Coordinator/Facilities Manager is responsible for the daily care and coordination of exhibitions, programs, and facilities at the Miller Gallery, including all aspects of installation. This position reports to the Gallery Director.

Responsibilities include:
• Managing 9000 square foot gallery facility, equipment, and other inventories, and coordinating university personnel, outside contractors, and vendors for assistance with maintenance, upgrades, and installations.
• Supervising and working closely with all exhibiting and guest artists, curators, lecturers, and performers.
• Directing student assistants, interns, and volunteers in their various roles.
• Ensuring the care and security of artwork.
• Assisting Gallery Director to ensure smooth operation of exhibitions. Requires extensive knowledge of art gallery operations and facilities management, and understanding of university policies and financial accounting.
• At the discretion of the Director, may assist with or collaborate on research, exhibition design, and marketing of the gallery's three to six contemporary art and traveling exhibitions and two student exhibitions per year, and any associated outreach and educational programs such as lectures, workshops, conferences, symposia, screenings, performances, and tours.

Qualifications: Experience, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
• Three or more years in exhibition administration or project management; Extensive knowledge of art gallery operations and contemporary art field; broad understanding of art exhibition practices; managerial experience; budgeting and accounting skills; • Considerable experience working as an art handler and/or registrar; ability to handle art professionally and with archival issues in mind; mastery of building construction methods and skills, exhibit fabrication and installation; knowledge of crating, shipping, and insuring art domestically and internationally; basic knowledge of exhibition lighting and electrical wiring; • Broad knowledge and skills using and maintaining audio and video equipment, computers, cameras; • Excellent communication, written, and interpersonal skills; • Facilities management experience; • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and Adobe CS4 (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign, Dreamweaver) • Driver's License; • Bachelor of (Fine) Arts or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Requirements:
• Self-motivated, dedicated individual with ability to work both independently and in a team and collaborate effectively hands-on with creative artists, curators, students, administrators and the general public; • Comfort working under pressure, with frequent changes and interruptions, and ability to meet deadlines; • Ability to pay attention to detail while maintaining a broad perspective; • Strong ability to prioritize effectively and creatively problem solve; • Weekend and evening hours regularly required, including but not limited to attendance at all exhibition openings and many special events.
• Owns car, truck, and/or van for occasional use in shipment of works, equipment, and materials.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in an academic setting and/or art museum/gallery setting.
• Experience in event planning and/or community organization and interest in community-building.
• Grantwriting experience.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair all audio-visual equipment, flat screen TVs, computers, video projectors, amps, etc.

Compensation:
• Full time staff position with benefits • Position starts at $30,183-40,000 US Dollars /year
