Assistant Professor for Media Arts

The Media Arts Department in the School of Communications and the Arts at Marist College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment to teach in the Interactive Media/Game Studies concentration, commencing Fall 2011. The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of interactive media, its technologies and production processes, and possess knowledge of traditional and experimental approaches related to interactive media.

Duties and responsibilities:
Teach courses in the Interactive Media/Game Studies concentration as well as Digital Toolbox, an introductory foundation course required of all Communication and Media Arts students pursuing a BA in Communication. Courses in the Interactive Media/Game Studies concentration include: Media Literacy, Digital Toolbox, Communicating on the Internet, Communication Revolution, Digital Video for Interactive Applications, Interactive Media I and II, Concepts in Game Production, and Advanced Video Game Production. Conduct research and/or creative work in the candidate's area of expertise leading to tenure and promotion. Engage in academic advising, service to the institution and to the candidate's academic discipline.

Qualified candidates will hold an MFA in New Media or terminal degree in a relevant field at the time of the appointment, and possess a record of teaching, scholarship/creativity, and service commensurate with the appointment. Candidates with significant work toward degree completion may be considered. Candidates must have proficiency in both PC and MAC-based computer environments, as well as in software in the areas of design, web, interactive media, game, audio, and video, within different industry-standard applications (including Flash, Photoshop, Final Cut, AutoDesk 3D tools, and Unity 3D). The successful candidate will show commitment to curriculum development, an interest in developing courses in Media Arts for traditional and online instruction, and in converting existing courses where applicable for online instruction.
