The role of the Games Lab situated in the Design | Media Arts Department at UCLA is to create a creative laboratory for team-based, interdisciplinary projects, particularly engaging students from the School of Arts and Architecture and the School of Theater, Film and Television. The lab is a cutting edge research tool employing high-end computers carrying complex graphics software both commercial and developed in-house, as well as specialized hardware, fabrication and electronics assembly and testing equipment that is utilized in the development of computer games.

The Games Lab Manager/Technical Director will support hardware and software development and implementation as well as project based research and development. The Manager/TD will oversee all operational services and support for the lab and for the faculty and student users; supervise and provide training; as well as define, design, maintain and expand the lab’s on-going dynamic knowledge base. The candidate should be technically knowledgeable and experienced in the fields of computer programming, system administration, gaming specific hardware & software workflow, and ideally have familiarity with the academic environment and experience in promoting and supporting a focused collaborative work process. An interest and enthusiasm for experimental game development is important.
