The School of Art + Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Graphic Design beginning August 16, 2010.

MFA in Graphic Design or equivalent degree in a related field is required. One to three years of teaching experience beyond graduate instruction is desirable. Candidates should possess a demonstrated record of professional accomplishments and be in dialogue with contemporary design discourse, particularly as it relates to practice or pedagogy. Successful candidates will be adept at negotiating the territory separating print, motion-based and digital/social media. An excellent working knowledge of appropriate software is assumed and any programming or coding experience would be considered an asset.

The candidate will have an active and crucial role in reshaping curriculum for both undergraduate and graduate students in Graphic Design. Successful candidates should demonstrate their ability and desire to support and contribute to the overall health of the Graphic Design Program, the School of Art + Design, and the University of Illinois through curricular development, active research, service and faculty governance. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching core curricular courses, foundations and graduate level courses. Salary commensurate with experience.

As a part of the College of Fine and Applied Arts at Illinois, the School of Art + Design offers ready opportunity for collaborations with Krannert Art Museum and Krannert Center for Performing Arts, and with active departments of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Dance, Theater, and Music. Faculty scholarship and teaching is also supported on campus by such units as the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities, Center for Advanced Study, and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology.
