Art as Research: Methods for Synthetic Reasoning, hosted by the Faculty of Creative Media at MMU in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, from June 12-13, 2024.

In a groundbreaking initiative, that aims to embrace non-traditional research outputs with a focus on artistic research. The symposium gathers 35 international artistic researchers to explore how art generates knowledge, challenges dominant narratives, and envisions just and sustainable futures.

Through the thematic framework of Art as Research: Methods for Synthetic Reasoning. The symposium aims to explore how we create order and meaning from the world around us, encompassing both passive and active forms of reasoning. We invite proposals that explore how art can generate new knowledge, challenge dominant narratives, and envision a better future by engaging with synthetic reasoning methodologies, where the truth of propositions emerges from their interaction with the world and the generation of novel properties through philosophical simulations (artworks). Presentations will delve into synthetic reasoning methodologies, the emergent properties arising from the convergence of art, science, philosophy, and technology, as well as the role of art as a critical inquiry into issues such as colonialism, capitalism, and the climate crisis.
