Tenure-Track: Assistant Professor of Game Creation

The School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) at Texas A&M University invites applications for one (1) full-time Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Game Creation with a nine-month academic appointment beginning Fall 2024. The Technical Art and Interactive Media Section of the School seeks candidates with expertise in game design, game development, and interactive simulation, who demonstrate proficiency with the theory, state-of-the-art tools, processes, methodologies, and practices in the field. Serious Games

Computational Creativity

Procedural Game Creation

Game production experience is especially desirable, particularly experience with Unreal Engine, Unity 3D, Godot, and mobile deployment. 

This position will be located at the new Texas A&M University campus in downtown Fort Worth and will be associated with development of the Virtual Production Institute (VPI). The VPI initiative has received $25 million in funding from the State of Texas to pursue the development of new applications of visual computing and interactive technologies and translating their use across multiple industries, entertainment, and the arts. The VPI is committed to educating and training a new generation of industry- and practice-ready engineers, technologists, and artists. The VPI’s first production stages and labs will open in the 2024-2025 academic year on both the main campus in Bryan/College Station and in Fort Worth.


The successful candidate will demonstrate an exceptional approach to their own research, developing and maintaining a national and international reputation through research, publication, exhibitions, lectures, and other creative outlets. Candidates will be expected to gain visibility through peer-reviewed academic research publications, juried creative works, or both. Priority will be given to faculty members who demonstrate the ability to pursue external funding to support their work. They will also be able to develop and teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, such as Game Design, Game Development, Game Level Design, and Advanced Game Design. They will play a fundamental role in teaching, research, and service in building the future of the Games curriculum at Texas A&M University and its relationship to the global games research community.


The School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a new School within the Texas A&M University System. Qualifications


Candidates must hold a terminal degree, Ph.D. (preferred) or M.F.A., in a related field as described above by the appointment start date. Candidates are expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels and must have a well-developed research agenda that will inform and advance current trends in the field.
