Assistant Professor - Digital Art and Emerging MediaLocation: Stony Brook, NYOpen Date:Nov 02, 2023Deadline:Feb 02, 2024 at 11:59 PM Eastern TimeDescriptionThe Department of Art at Stony Brook University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the practice of Digital Art and Emerging Media, to begin in Fall 2024. We invite applicants with a rigorous and evolving artistic research practice in areas such as computational imaging, extended reality (AR/VR/MR) and immersive media, blockchain technologies (Web 3.0), creative coding, physical computing, and more. We are looking for a colleague whose work demonstrates not only technical skill but also critical sophistication and social engagement, addressing unfolding concerns at the intersection of art, technology, and culture.This role will include instructing BA, MFA, and MA/PhD students in media-based courses that marry artistic production with critical thinking and theory. We are seeking an accomplished teacher and mentor who is able to develop innovative, inclusive courses and to guide students toward professional opportunities in computational art. Our new colleague will help to shape our programs, recruit and train burgeoning artists and scholars, and plot a visionary trajectory for our department's future.QualificationsRequired:• A terminal degree (or foreign equivalent) in Art Practice and related fields with an emphasis on digital, emerging or computational media.• An active professional art practice and demonstrable exhibition record or comparable public exposure.• Demonstrated knowledge of current techniques in digital arts and emerging media or computational media.• Prior teaching experience at the university level.• A concrete commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as demonstrated through their practice or educational participation.Preferred:• At least 2 years of teaching experience at the university level.• An active, professional art practice with an extensive exhibition record.• Experience with program and curriculum development in experimental and contemporary digital media.• Evidence of a teaching art practice that compliments and extends strengths existing in the studio art program.• Public and/or recognition of Art Practice.Application InstructionsTo apply, visit are to be submitted through Interfolio (add link to position number xxxxxx).Requested Application Materials:1) State employment application2) Cover letter3) Curriculum Vitae4) Portfolio submitted through Google Drive form: Names of three references (we will not be contacting them at this stage)The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.In accordance with the Title II Crime Awareness and Security Act, a copy of our crime statistics is available upon request .
