F. H. SELLERS PROFESSOR IN PAINTING

The Department of Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) invites applications for the F. H. Sellers Professor in Painting. The F. H. Sellers Professor is a full-time, tenured faculty position, beginning in August of 2024. Salary is competitive with peer institutions and commensurate with quality of practice, scholarship, academic research, teaching experience, and current professional standing.


PROGRAM PROFILE


The Department of Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago is an open community with strong commitment to painting's varied discourses, its histories, and to experimentation. RESPONSIBILITIES


Full-time faculty in the Department of Painting and Drawing teach undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate level classes within the Department of Painting and Drawing, including working with Post-baccalaureate and MFA students on a tutorial basis. The faculty member will take a leadership role in forging the future of the department and the school; participate in student advising, committee work, and special projects; contribute to the SAIC community through ongoing curricular development; and participate in departmental administration and school governance.


QUALIFICATIONS


MFA degree in Painting and Drawing or a terminal degree in other relevant fields of study is preferred. Teaching experience commensurate with that of a tenured professor is required. A strong national and international exhibition record is mandatory.


Artists whose studio practice incorporates painting and drawing or who work in the expanded field are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of contemporary critical and theoretical issues in painting and drawing, and expanded practices is expected. The ability to communicate with undergraduate and graduate students on multiple levels is essential, as well as engaged participation in an ongoing conversation about the evolution and future of the disciplines and department.


The ideal candidate will contribute to the diversity of the School by bringing a perspective, way of thinking, and/or a unique set of experiences that expand the intellectual conversations and practices in the field. We seek candidates with the knowledge and aptitude to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds. Candidates should demonstrate their experience with, or aptitude for, departmental administration.
