Northern Illinois University, located 65 miles west from Chicago, is a comprehensive teaching and research-based institution with over 19,000 currently enrolled students.

The Time Arts program at NIU integrates current and emerging digital media processes, with course work comprising areas of animation, video art, audio art, and interactive art.

The candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses that emphasize animation and digital media.

Minimum Qualifications
A terminal degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.) in Visual Arts, design, media art or related fields from an accredited (recognized equivalent) university completed by June 30th, 2018.

Two years teaching experience in art, design, or related fields at the university level.
Demonstration of ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, creative and scholarly activities, teaching, advising and service.

Knowledge of 2D and 3D modeling and animation software (3D Studio Max or Maya, ZBrush), game engine (Unity or Unreal) and computer/video hardware.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications
Effective teaching of Time Arts courses, from entry level to graduate level.

An expert user and instructor of applicable software and digital technologies that is engaged with current trends and grounded in the contemporary concepts, principles and art-making practices.

Capability of managing and supervising computer and digital fabrication facilities.

Effectiveness as a mentor and advisor of students.
Relevant industry experience outside of academia.
Record of active participation in professional organizations.

Experience in teaching media-centric foundational level art and design courses.

Note: Finalists for the position will be required to provide an official transcript and three letters of recommendation dated within the last two years. Final candidates being interviewed are expected to make a scholarly presentation to an audience of faculty, staff and students, and to interact with students.
