I don't mean to single you out at all but could you elaborate on why this would not belong on the Calendar page? If I'm not mistaken, it's because one senses that more people will look at the discussion area than will look at the Calendar area. Do you think that an Announcement area would be a good compromise?
My speculation is that including so many announcements in the Discussion area causes people not to sense so acutely the absence of discussion, which in years past was by far the most dynamic area of Rhizome i.e. at its very beginning. Having Discussion go completely away might not be a good thing for the organization and membership, or for the aesthetic evolution of humanity during a time of great transformation because of computers.
One germane thing about being a nonprofit is that Rhizome doesn't have to groom discussion in order to content advertisers (not to say politic decorum can be jettisoned) and not using the capacity for this seems like a waste or even a dereliction of the public trust.
