intimate underground and brilliant

Shulea Cheang and Beth Stryker did an installation for the Mix
show at Anthology a couple of years a go… it was a mixture
of cyber art re:AIDS and was down the funky stairs lit by a single
neon (thanks Dan Flavin) strand which circled the room and made
a sort of noose we were all caught in…the high tech instruments:
cdrom players, internet terminals, etc were all placed on those
rough wood spools for cable…it was a perfect mix (!) of
high/low indoor/outdoor funky/clean yet all and all very
inviting. I recall seeing a line of young black and Puerto Rican
teenagers waiting to log on to the interviews with HIV people and
watching over the shoulders of the person actually clicking.
It was intimate underground and brilliant.
