Information Ecology

I am in a networked bar tonight wondering about the quality, or lack thereof, of all the mediated information at my disposal. In the background Arcade Fire is on the speakers. I'm waiting for a friend.
The feeling of dread comes over me, due to massive amounts of bad information. I shake it off and think about what I let in. How is that the bad information always subverts the good. I log on to Rhizome and feel better. Should we begin to build information ecology zones, zones where bad useless and foolish information are banned?
I look up, my friend arrives. I feel released. Why? I am about to log off.
Human contact breaks the cycle of info overload, simple human contact releases me.
Is there an ecology to information that I should be practising?
Will that lead to censorship?
What if my eco-zone filters an important message from a dissenting Chinese compatriot?
Well, the bad is growing rapidly, fight the good fight? How can we address a good ecology without losing freedoms?
