About the Scope Art Fair

~scope concept
The mission of -scope is to demystify the buying process of contemporary art
while challenging our static views of the art world. -scope accomplishes
this by producing international art fairs of cutting-edge art and emerging
culture.

The fairs bring together up-and-coming dealers, curators and artists in a
relaxed atmosphere. In this way, -scope makes itself an invaluable resource
for established and burgeoning collectors as well as museums, corporate
curators and the general public.

-scope further distinguishes itself as an alternative to the typical art
fair by requiring each gallery to devote 80% of its art to one artist. This
allows the viewer to have a personal dialog with the artist.

-scope also devotes a portion of its program to educational forums and new
media which includes moderated panel discussions and video and film
screenings. Panel discussions in the past have touched on such relevant
topics as Building Unique Collections and The Culture Economy. Additional
events include receptions with local museums, performances and music
programs.

-scopeTV is a series of segments shot over the next two years to document
the worldwide art scene. -scopeMiami 2003 provided the setting for the first
segment, which focused on major art events running concurrent with
-scopeMiami and ArtBasel Miami. http://www.lalapantzeroff.com

-scope Sound
This program provides a platform for sound artists in addition to emerging
local DJs and bands at each -scope art fair.

Cinema-scope
Cinema-scope brings together the work of emerging international video
artists and filmmakers.

Panel Discussions
Informative and interactive discussion panels cover a range of art-related
topics and provide a forum for members of the public to share their thoughts
and ideas. Past panels covered how collectors develop unusual, offbeat
collections (Unique Collections) and the interaction between artists and
corporate art departments (Emerging Artists and Corporations).

Silent Auction
A selection of artwork donated by the exhibitors and invited curators and
artists affords new collectors an opportunity to start their collections and
established collectors a chance to augment their holdings. Proceeds from the
Silent Auction help support the various -scope programs and local non-profit
arts educational programs such as Arts for Learning/Miami and Young
Audiences New York.

Performance-scope
Performance art has long been an important part of the emerging art scene.
This program of performances scheduled through-out each fair was developed
as a means for supporting this unconventional medium.

About Lee Wells
I am an artist and curator currently living and working in Brooklyn, New
York. I have been an exhibiting artist for over 10 years and have
participated in numerous solo and group shows, including exhibitions in New
York, London, Paris, Rome, Miami and Chicago. In 1995, I co-founded
Imperfect Fluids Arts Collective (IFAC) in Chicago and have since renamed it
to the International Fine Art Consortium in 2000. At that point I moved to
New York City to more seriously pursue my art career. I have since curated
Active Duty at Studio 84 in Williamsburg Brooklyn in April 2004 and
co-curated The Art of Politics at Ashmore Gallery in Miami Beach Florida in
October 2004.
I am currently co-organizing a artist organized curitorial research project
for the 2006 Liverpool Biennial called TransVoyeur.
