Position: Director of Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital Culture and
Media Science / Linz, Austria

The Ludwig Boltzmann Association in cooperation with the University of
Art and Industrial Design, the Ars Electronica Center and the Lentos
Museum of Modern Art advertise the position of Director of the newly
founded Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital Culture and Media
Science.

Job Description:

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital Culture and Media Science will
be located in the city of Linz, Austria, and aims on innovative and
translational research in the development of documentation, description
and preservation strategies of digital and media art on the basis of the
Ars Electronica Archive.

To achieve this goal three program lines will be established to
* describe and categorize digital art and design in a broader art
historical and media theoretical context;
* efficiently store, manage, retrieve and distribute variable media
content
* create innovative computer-based tools for further development of
basic methods in art history and cultural studies. The Ludwig Boltzmann
Institute for Digital Culture and Media Science is set up for a 7 year
research program with a permanent staff of 10 to 12 persons. Used
languages will be German and English, good command of German desirable.

Qualifications:
* ability to set up and establish the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute
* extensive administrative experience in research environments or
demonstrated strength in the management of high-impact academic programs
and extensive knowledge of the international research environment
* ability to manage the three program lines and to act as key
researcher of program line a)
* ability to establish regional and international networks
* social skills and communication capabilities
* ability to provide leadership in financial administration,
fundraising and representation of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute
* record of art historical scholarship with knowledge of interactive
and net-based media art
* knowledge in preservation of digital objects
