Artists Talk
As part of the Techlab digital media artist in residence program at the Surrey Art Gallery Kate Armstrong will give an Artists Talk on Sunday, February 2nd, 2003 at 2pm.
Kate will present work-in-progess from Catalogue, a net.art work that uses description and image to interrogate cultural and mechanical forms stemming from online shopping. The artwork intervenes in the ordering systems of retailers to transform the process of shopping and the act of buying. Divisions between art and world begin to blur as far-reaching areas of e-commerce — from popup advertisements, shopping cart ordering and the postal system, to the items that can be ordered online —begin to come into play in the operation of the work.
