PICA + Cinema Project co-present
Walid Ra'ad

Friday, December 12
The Loudest Muttering is Over is comprised of a
multi-media presentation drawn from the archives of
The Atlas Group. Using photographic stills, pages from
notebooks, and short video work, Ra'ad discusses the
history of the Lebanese Wars through the lives of
anonymous sources and imaginary characters such as Dr.
Fadl Fakhouri.

Saturday, December 13
Ra'ad will be at Cinema Project for a
performance/presentation of Civilizationally, We Do
Not Dig Holes To Bury Ourselves.

The Atlas Group has produced various visual and
audiovisual documents that, while fictionalized, are
often based on kernels of real experiences. Through
the guise of The Atlas Group archive, Ra'ad
reconsiders the recent internal conflicts in Lebanon
not as a concrete set of facts and events, but rather
as an abstraction of memories and media.

This is the first West Coast screening of Walid's
work. His media works have been shown/performed at The
Whitney Biennial (New York, USA), The Kunsten Festival
des Arts (Brussels, Belgium), Kunst-Werke (Berlin,
Germany), and numerous other festivals in Europe, The
Middle East, and North America.
