What will you do?

Arts and Photography fields offer you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to
express your creative ability in the company of other talented individuals
like yourself. The possibilities are endless. You might operate
state-of-the-art photography equipment for a presidential news conference,
create graphics for a high-profile Pentagon presentation or design layouts
for a Navy magazine. As part of this occupational specialty, you might:

- Serve as the Navy's professional photographers

- Operate state-of-the-art photography and video equipment

- Shoot portrait photography, aerial photography, photographic copying

- Scan and/or edit digital still and video images

- Operate darkroom and laboratory equipment for film/print production

- Prepare illustrations, original art and graphics using various art media
including pencil, pen, airbrush, inks and paints

- Prepare technical drawings and audio-visual materials: charts, slides,
graphs and TV projectors

- Operate personal computer/desktop publishing systems

- Design layouts, set type, make plates for printing

- Operate printing presses

Skills and training

A field in Arts and Photography in the Navy offers you the best of both
worlds a chance to travel internationally while best utilizing your talents.
Not only will you fine-tune your skills among an elite group, additional
training is also available in this field. For instance, advanced training in
photojournalism or digital editing is available to Sailors who display a
great level of talent and motivation. You may have the opportunity to earn
Department of Labor certifications, including:

- Illustrator

- Drafter

- Silk Screen Cutter

Your training may also prepare you for future careers as a:

- Still photographer

- Camera Operator- TV

- Photojournalist

- Film Editor

- Offset Press Operator

Educational opportunities

Most of the on-the-job training in this field directly translates to credit
in the liberal arts fields at colleges and universities. Advanced
civilian-taught technical and operational training may be available for
