The School of Visual Arts and the College Art Association (CAA) have
announced the upcoming exhibition, "Americana". The exhibition is part of
a larger event called "Crossings: Artistic and Curatorial Practice", a
multi-site exhibition happening throughout Manhattan during the 91st
Annual CAA Conference (February 19 - 22).

Americana includes the work of sixteen artists who investigate the myriad
definitions of what it means to be American today. The exhibition consists
of photography, painting, sculpture, installation, and new media. The
works range from realistic depictions of the suburban and industrial
landscape to satirical examinations of the wild west. There are works that
chronicle the physical paths of immigration from Mexico into Arizona;
critique consumer culture and borrow from the tropes of Pop Art; explore
mediated coverage of the war in Afghanistan and the impending war in Iraq;
borrow from American styles of decoration and design; and much more.
