The Drake University Department of Art and Design seeks a practicing studio artist for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art and Design position in the School of Fine Arts beginning Fall 2016. This position will contribute to a department that is committed to a cross-disciplinary approach to the study and practice of art, design, and art history.

Position: A successful candidate will be a multi-disciplinary artist whose creative activities include the integration of digital media and studio art. The candidate should have a broad knowledge of contemporary art practices and their creative application to visual communication. The candidate will be expected to assist the department in the continued development of a curriculum that engages students in exploratory practices in the arts. Salary is competitive with peer schools and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: Teach 3 studio classes each semester with an interest and ability to instruct and to contribute to the revising of the foundations program as well as teaching upper-level courses in the Department of Art and Design. Engage in professional practice, research, and activities related to the discipline. Provide student academic advising and contribute to curriculum development as well as service to the department, university and community.

Qualifications: M.F.A. in a visual art discipline required. Experience teaching at the university level required. The candidate should demonstrate an understanding of multiple technical and conceptual approaches to art or design studio activities.
