The Department of Art and Art History at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a full-time assistant professor, tenure-track appointment in Foundation with particular emphasis on Two-Dimensional Design and at least one of the following areas: Visual Culture Studies (highly desirable), 3-D Design, 4-D Design, or Printmaking beginning academic year 2016-2017.

The Department seeks an inspiring, knowledgeable and enthusiastic artist committed to the Foundation experience as an essential component of an undergraduate education. The successful candidate will have an MFA or PhD degree, three years of college-level teaching experience that includes foundation courses (beyond graduate TA), an active professional and exhibition record, and strong communication skills. The candidate should also have knowledge of current studio practices in the visual arts, including historical and contemporary concepts, criticism, and techniques. Responsibilities will include oversight and leadership of the Foundation area in the Department’s Visual Art Program, which consists of Fine Arts, Graphic Design, and Lens Based Arts concentrations, as well as Art Education.

Minimum Qualifications

1. MFA or PhD in Visual Arts from an accredited institution completed by the date of appointment.
2. Solid foundation in two-dimensional design, digital media as it relates to fine art, contemporary visual communication, and critical theory.
3. Expertise in graphic software and digital printing technology relevant to the foundation experience; knowledge of Mac OS and Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, Premier, HTML and SketchUp are desirable.
4. Active professional practice and exhibition record commensurate with a highly competitive comprehensive college.
5. Proven record as an excellent teacher with three years of college teaching beyond the graduate assistant level.
6. Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills and demonstrated ability in curriculum development.
