Devil's Advocate: Seven Points For Neutrality

"Why Artists, Intellectuals, and Fans or Supporters Thereof Should not
Protest, Bash, or Otherwise Posture Against Bush/Cheney Military Policy on
Iraq for 2002," short version.

1. Artists are not in charge. They are the peanut gallery.

2. After the end of the Cold War, the enormous power vacuum left a
heretofore hidden War, which we now call the War on Terror.

3. Terrorists are pretty strong now, and will get stronger as they focus
their energies on new methods and technology.

4. Dislodging Hussein is unprecedented and risky, but it will provide
necessary resources to the anti-terror forces and deny them to terrorists.

5. Waiting is absurd, since the material is already in place and the battle
is afoot. Losing momentum would be foolish to say the least.

6. The terrorists are attacking the anti-terrorists at full speed. Their
power is at its height and they will not relent, if they are intelligent and
determined, which they manifestly are.

7. Crimes and misdemeanors by any particular agents on the anti-terror side
are relatively unimportant vis-a-vis the larger dynamics regarding the
current power vacuum.

Considering this argument I find it perhaps best and wisest for Max Herman
and Genius 2000 to remain entirely neutral on the topic of USA military
policy for the foreseeable future, inclusive of a retraction of his/its
previous position "No Iraq Till '04."

I am willing to listen to any arguments for or against this argument by the
Devil, except from you-know-who, who is not even American to begin with.

Sincerely yours,

Max Herman

Tell that to my US Passport. Are you 'native American'?
Living in a cluture which consists 50%+ of emigrants,
your posing is pathetic.

But you're right. I don't suffer from nationalistic-ego as token for
citizenship.

Put your grandparents back on the boat and off you go.

You're correct, I was incorrect, I'll hear your arguments, but I deleted
your last thirty posts unread so if they were in those you gotta refresh me.

Otherwise I'm off to la-la land. You like? I know I do.

An adulterous nation asks for a sign.

Not at all. You missed it–too bad.

I know you do.

I suggest they jump from the cliff.

Well I decided to go back and check those posts I'd deleted, and they are a
doozy.

Anyway, after a bit I got

Sorry, but you need to be logged in as a Rhizome member in order to access
this page. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you're already a member,

of minutes to sign up.

so I'm still missing a few. Anyway.

I saw Tom Friedman's op-ed in the www.startribune.com (print version) today,
about how the real problem is to raise the Arab World's "dignity factor" or
something. A good argument for the betterment of the world by setting up a
free decent society in Iraq. So I'm waffling as usual.

The other op-ed was a dis to Nader, for saying Gore=Bush, argument being,
"look at the judges Bush is putting in." Heck if I know, but I voted for
Nader here in MN (i.e. a safe protest because Gore had already won here).

I also remembered today, while enjoying a nice day, that Kennedy and LBJ
both rigged elections too so Bush is really not any less legitimate a
President than they were. So why bitch about it?

Tolstoy also said "War just Is", perhaps, in Voina I Mir. He compared it to
the planets or something. Napoleon goes East, he goes back West, like the
tide, geology, a fact of destiny or whatever. That's one of my favorite
books; it was Norman Mailer's favorite at one point also, and a Russian
writing teacher made him copy it out longhand. Wow!

Till I get time to read and react to Karei's recent posts, I have to say
Karei is really putting sincerity and effort into what he types for this
list, and that is a Plus whether you hate his guts or not.

Plus, in the G2K video someone says "we're opening the Crown Chakra," anyone
know what that means?

(c'mon Death, is that also crap? It can't be–but maybe it is.)
