Current apexart resident Rebecca Key and curator/media historian Michael Conner meet for the first time in person. What can you learn about a person in the first meeting? What will they talk about? Anything…..everything……or nothing?

Objects, characters, events, TV, lectures, apexart, Liverpool, art, narratives, life, film, New York, fabricated situations, confusions, residency, authors, journeys, memories, artists, and randomness may be discussed.

Come and witness their first encounter at apexart.

Rebecca Key is an artist based in Liverpool, UK. She has exhibited throughout the UK and Europe, and also works as an Art Director for film and television. She has worked on numerous UK soaps and dramas and has art directed and worked in the art department of both UK and US feature film releases. After working on a feature film in the summer, she will begin her PhD study into how film and television production design methodology is used in the gallery, working title: From Script to Screen, from Sketchbook to the Gallery: the process of the placement of objects in installation and in film and television. It will present the first joint theoretical overview to connect the creative processes used in these two previously separately defined disciplines. Rebecca Key will be in residency at apexart until May 28. She was recommended by Paul Luckraft, curator and artist, Manchester, UK.

Michael Connor is a curator and media historian based in New York. He is currently developing a permanent exhibition about the history of film, television, and video games that will open later this year at the Australian Center for the Moving Image. His exhibition The New Normal, which explores the theme of privacy in contemporary art, premiered at Artists Space in 2008 and is currently touring through Independent Curators International. Connor was formerly Head of Exhibitions at BFI Southbank in London and Curator at FACT in Liverpool.
