Long before man ever set foot in space, writers and artist have journeyed o=
ut on fantastic space travels. While the visions of artists were inspired b=
y developments in science and changed accordingly, scientists in their tur=
n have allowed their discoveries to be fuelled by these imaginations. As th=
e process of appropriating space continues, a whole culture, politics and e=
thics will develop alongside it, embracing domains that can't be left to sc=
ientists alone. Artists have always been at the forefront of cultural and s=
ocial shifts, and so it should as it comes to space development. Besides mo=
re fantastic approaches, artistic visions have started to focus on the real=
ities of space exploration, its political and social practices, on the infl=
uence of the collective memory of the classical space age, and on more poli=
tical approaches to empower the individual for his right to space, either w=
orking with or against the space agencies. Crafting Space brings together a=
rtists who, from many different perspectives, take a look into space.

opie et des voyages extraordinaires" in Yverdone (Switzerland) for loans fr=
