SLINGSHOT, the new festival of music, electronic arts and technology in Athens, GA, invites proposals for completed or new artworks to be presented during the festival, March 20-22, 2014. SLINGSHOT highlights interactivity, innovative performance, sound, video and audiovisual works, social and locative media, and artworks integrated with the urban environment.

SLINGSHOT is a hybrid festival that allows a diverse audience to engage with music, art and tech as a continuum across pop, alternative and experimental genres. Spread over 4 city blocks, SLINGSHOT spotlights international, national and local music acts on stage, boundary pushing artworks throughout the urban environment, and leading tech innovators. Art pervades the entire urban environment, indoors and out, encouraging discovery, crossing over, and active engagement.

EXHIBITION: March 20-22, 2014
ELIGIBILITY: No restrictions. Anyone may apply. Limit 1 submission per artist.

Proposals are invited for new or existing works in one of the following categories:

• Installation
Installations involving any media will be considered. Installations may be proposed for specific sites if desired.

• Performance
Any type of performances for any type of site or venue will be considered. Performances with musicians may be submitted here or under the separate Call for Music.

• Mobile Media
Any type of work involving mobile devices, including locative media.

• Sound Works
Sound works with 2-8 channels of audio. Sound works are intended for a mobile audience (not seated) who may enter and leave at will in the middle of a work. Our audio/projection space is equipped with an 8 channel speaker array with speakers at the vertices of a cube. Sound works for other configurations may also be considered. Sound works with video components should be submitted under the “Video” category. Sound works with other elements may be submitted under "Installation" or "Other."

• Video / Audiovisual Works
Single channel SD or HD digital video for LCD screens or projection, with sound in stereo, 5.1 surround, or 8 channels (cube configuration). Works may be programmed in our audio/projection space. Video works for other than one projection screen or one LCD monitor should be submitted under “Installation” or “Other.”

• Other
Any type of work that does not fit the above categories may be submitted here.

SUBMISSIONS: A completed submission consists of the completed online form (see below), including a URL documenting the proposed work, and URL(s) where the CV(s) of the artist(s) in PDF format can be downloaded.

DOCUMENTATION: Documentation/recordings of completed artworks or renderings/simulations of proposed works should be submitted as a single URL. Appropriate media for documentation include photography, audio, video, renderings, simulations and technical drawings. Documentation must be concise, clear and of high quality. Excerpts are appropriate for longer works. Note that material will be viewed on an LCD screen and in stereo audio only. You may specify if headphones are required.

SITES: Artworks will be presented in a wide range of indoor and outdoor venues within a 4 block area of downtown Athens. Artists should describe the type of site required for their work on their proposal. Proposals may be made for specific sites within or near the festival area. EXHIBITION DURATION: Most works will be scheduled for 1-2 nights. Certain works of indeterminate duration that do not require security may be on exhibition for a longer period. Artist’s should specify duration requirements.

INSTALLING WORK: Artists are responsible for installing and de-installing their own work (except for works in the “Video” and “Sound” categories. SLINGSHOT will make an effort to provide installation assistance.

FUNDING: Slingshot cannot promise any funding for the selected artworks or artists, but Slingshot will support efforts by the selected artists to obtain outside funding. Limited support or funding may be available for certain selected works. Costs for shipping, transporting, installing, de-installing, or insuring artworks or artist's equipment are normally the responsibility of the artist, though SLINGSHOT can help provide assistance with installation. Every effort will be made to protect artworks during the exhibition, but Slingshot cannot be held responsible for damage.

PROMOTION: Every effort will be made to document work in the festival. Selected works may be included in the national promotion campaign. Any documentation of works in the festival will be made available to the artists.
