Artist Statement

Homage to the Cube references Josef Albers’ investigation of chromatic interaction and his Homage to the Square paintings. Constructed using physical components from LCD monitors, the works explore the behavior of light within electronic visual displays. Nelemans introduces the colorless material cellophane to polarizing filters to elicit color triggered by stress distribution as the materials meet. These planes of cellophane changes color as it is viewed from a different angle alluding to Alber's illusion of space
