1. New Media One exhibition, June 25 - 28, 2003

Opening June 25 and continuing to June 28, 2003,
The Khyber Digital Media Centre presents:

New Media One

An installation by Stephan Schulz and Valerie Salez
in the Khyber Turret Room

After having been awarded the Aliant New Media Arts Prize in February, 2003, the Khyber Digital Media Centre is now presenting the first of two exhibitions featuring new work from local new media artists.

From June 25th - 28th Valerie Salez and Stephan Schulz present work fresh out of the computer, still warm and tasty.

Valerie Salez has created Unititled Sketch, an interactive, moving drawing in which participants can draw live onto, over, or in addition too the artist's loose sketches. Projected onto a wall with a draw pad available, the constantly disappearing drawings confront visitors with the act of drawing between virtual and real space. Ms. Salez is a multidisciplinary artist who has exhibited and screened work nationally and internationally. Unititled Sketch is her first new media work.

Stephan Schulz's piece, Swimming in the Forest, involves two rows of five TVs, one suspended in the air, the other sitting on kitchen chairs. Dealing with his situation of being suspended between Berlin and Halifax, he has created an interactive environment using imagery of the forest and the ocean. During his year studying in Halifax on a DAAD scholarship Mr. Schulz has developed a love for the use of TVs in new media art. Swimming in the Forest further persues that love.

An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, June 25 at 8:00 pm in the Khyber Turret Room. We would be very happy if you would peek in. The reception will be preceeded by New Media Art Show and Tell, the KDMC's regular screening night, at 7pm in the Khyber Club.

The Turret Room is located on the third floor of the Khyber Centre for the Arts at 1588 Barrington Street, Halifax. The exhibition will be open 12 noon-8 pm from June 26-28, 2003. Admission is free
