Jeff Gates is an artist and net wonk. He makes his living as New Media Lead Producer at the Smithsonian American Art Museum but he spends the rest of his life figuring out how to make friends and influence people on the Net.

In a previous life he was Director of ArtFBI (Artists for a Better Image: and studied stereotypes of artists in contemporary culture.

He is a storyteller via his blog, Life Outtacontext, ( and maker of net art projects (like Dichotomy: It Was a Matter of Time and Place (a 9/11 Storytelling project): and in early 1999 he auctioned his personal demographics on eBay:
