Full Description

Each equilateral triangle that distorts the original image is the representation of the IP address of a device that caused a 404 on the website that contains the image. The period taken into account varies randomly between 1 and 360 days for each update of the generated image. Each triangle is positioned relative to the IP address, its color depends on its position.

This work is based on a simple instruction that involve a geometric composition: "Instruction 19 : Populate the picture with equilateral triangles". This instruction is carried out in the form of a digital photograph modified by an online software. This softwares uses available data: IP addresses of devices that connected to the website containing the picture.

The set of generated pictures constitutes a visual research on the existence of margins of freedom and action within a defined framework of rules and constraints. While in the extension of conceptual practices like those from Sol LeWitt, Claude Rutault, or algorithmic visual games from François Morellet, the various embodiments are an exploration of possible contexts allowing the existence of a contemporary art practice, mixing analog and digital, included in some banality of an everyday life that is not devoid of poetry.
