Molly Schwartz combines painting, drawing, photography and animation to build digital collage video voyages. These animated travelogues look for potentially unobserved perspectives and contrary influences, freely shifting through expanses, compressions, altitudes and timelines, taking the viewer along as passenger. She was born in NYC and raised in Oklahoma and received her BFA in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has lived in Chicago, Katmandu, Los Angeles, and since 1999, Brooklyn. She shows her animated videos and drawings in public art installations, festivals, exhibitions and screenings worldwide, including Scope Basel, Dumbo Art Center, Conflux Festival, Brooklyn Int’l Film Festival, Brooklyn Arts Council, Jersey City Museum/Victory Hall, and Pierogi Gallery’s Flat-Files. In the spring of 2007 she created a site-specific public video installation at the Brooklyn Central Library. Schwartz has taught at NYU, was a resident artist at the VCCA and I-Park and currently freelances for independent film and television.
