Certain things, such as hindsight and foreplay, have always been lacking in my life. My mom warned me time and time again about moving too fast. “Take things in stride,” she would say. I was doing 95, going north on 281. Heading to see my boy before sunrise. The Department of Transportation kept warning me, “Drink. Drive. Go to jail.” If there is one thing I can say with confidence it’s that I didn’t wind up in jail, per se. The road was a little fuzzy through the bullet sized raindrops and fog. The six consecutive hours of late night Texas Hill Country driving was wearing me thin. But there was this Mason jar full of moonshine that kept me focused on the job.
