Hyper-Opera (2015)

by Kakioni

Hyper-Opera is a website-specific online performance, in the form of a newly-composed, contemporary opera. It seeks to explore new perceptions of the operatic experience and explore new structures of narratives emerging by the combination of feminine narratives and hypertextual structures. As part of its exploration, Hyper-Opera investigates the idea of [web]site - specificity. It considers existing websites as contextual containers for its performance and, also, looks at possible ways the existing spaces could inform Hyper-Opera and vice versa. Like every other opera, Hyper-Opera has been created to tell a story. The story to be told is the story of the Iliad and the Odyssey from a feminine point of view. Various archetypical women characters are investigated, this time, set against the background of a virtual theatrical setting, which seems an appropriate place for a not-craving-for-closure story, to be told.
