Contesting the Biotech Century

For the last several years, tactical media collective Critical Art Ensemble (CAE) have produced creative interventions into the discussions surrounding genetic science and technology. Their latest project, 'Contestational Biology,' continues to interrogate biotechnology through a (re)combination of performance, installation, and digital technologies. As part of the project, CAE (with Beatriz da Costa and Claire Pentecost) reverse engineered some of Monsanto's Round-Up Ready plant products for an installation at the Corcoran. On offer from 'Contestational Biology's' book and Web site: some techniques for 'fuzzy biological sabotage' - methods for turning biotech against its corporate masters.
