The Upgrade! w/Patrick Lichty

Dear all,

We're gathering again next week, THURSDAY, July 31, for an evening with
Patrick Lichty.

Patrick is a technologically-based intermedia artist, writer, activist,
and curator
residing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He creates work individually and as
part of several
collectives, and is editor of the new media art and culture magazine,
Independent Agent.
His latest curatorial project, Iconography, will be hosted on
Turbulence.org this fall.

The common threads running through Patrick's works are those of
communication;
the creation of narrative, critical engagement with technological
culture, mediated perception,
and the role of technology in the creative process. These threads pass
through culture hacks,
generative media, experimental video, and more. At the gathering,
Patrick, will give an archipelagic
sampler of his works from early culture hacks with Haymarket Riot,
spatial narratives including
Sprawl and Grasping at Bits, ubiquitous computing spaces like The Grid,
and various cultural
interventions. Premiering at The Upgrade! will be the final installment
in his 8 Bits or
Less wristcam video trilogy, and a brief discussion on a series of new
works based on the
conceptual framework of Digital Minimalism.
