what photographers, or artists working with photography, do rhizomers find UNDER-rated? just curious… marisa
Okay, I'll stick my head in a loaded trap. I'm not sure what "rated" is about. Sounds a bit subjective. So instead, here are some quasi-photo based artist I'm currently interested in and some who I just have no desire for.
New Ups: Pierre Huyghe and Trisha Donnelly. Both are sorta mixed use artist. Performance, video, computers, pop culture, just all over strange. Huyghe's show comming up at the Gugg should be very cool. As for some old skool, how abot Wegman? (underated due to being pop with the people? His early work still works) Also love: Muniz and Harrison (showed both in Lo-Fi Baroque back in the day)
New Downs: The New German School. Photoshop and big bland prints just don't do it for me. Also Beecroft…Ick. I don't need a world that gives me two choices; Fashion or War.
Also of note, if you are in NYC, go check the early video show at PS1. Has the rawness you feel when looking at early net art. Inspired Tim and I to work on some online video/performance/control stuff. We should be sending it out in Feb 03.
All right Rachel and Marisa, time for you both to give up some names. Dish.
