VR Art : Possible Exhibition Opportunities

Posted by Rhizome | Tue May 6th 1997 1 a.m.

Hi All

Idea@mcr1 have been approached by a commercial web and multimedia
developer, acting for a global corporation, who are planning an online
3-D (especially) and 2-D gallery space and who wish to commission
artists and/or (more likely initially?) collect suitable existing
artworks and/or collect prospectors willing to develop pieces
uncommissioned. We guess that this will form a kind of demonstrator for
their hardware and their partners' software without being in-your-face
sell.

Details are not tied down re payment (but there will be payment) and
other commercial terms, IPR issues, 'size' or technical issues re
exhibits or indeed on the specific content wanted - though on the last
matter it seems clear that a family audience is envisaged and will focus
choices.

If this develops as seems likely Idea will make further announcements to
these lists. But if you'd like to express interest on the basis of the
bare facts please email.

PS The physical exhibition of the 36MC results in the former Blackwells
Bookshop, Manchester closes on Sunday 11 May after four successful
weeks. There are a few tickets available for a reception in the building
this Friday 9 from 5.30pm BST - email requests please. The Web site is
there in perpetuity(!?).
