BATTLE of TANG'S 3-COLOR GLAZE
at *CANDY FACTORY 4/3-5/3/98

Our works are always based on other people's heritage.

Our works will be labeled ethnic. But we think all art belongs to the
same single "domestic" culture. Traditionally, the idea of art is
whatever belongs to the dominant people. In western culture, art is
never taken from common culture. With this opinion, domestic art could
never exist. If a work of art gets called "domestic," it is no longer
art, just furniture or some type of fetish.

Battle of tang's "3 color glazed" appropriates its style from old
chinese pottery. This pottery style was discovered for the first time in
the 20th century during excavation for a railroad in China. This was the
first international ceramic style in the silk-road age. Now we have
other media-roads on which to travel. As fetish, this is not art, just a
collection of articles taken from some other place.

We don't decide form or color. We only "dub" esthetic judgements and
translate from different contexts into a new aesthetics–like
Dub-music. We translate one value judgement for another judgement.
