Position: Contemporary Art Historian - University of Nevada, Reno

Assistant Professor in art history, tenure track. PhD required. Some teaching experience at the college level is preferred. Specialty in contemporary art. Sub-specialty open; demonstrated interest in non-Western Art, new media, or aesthetics/criticism is especially welcome. We are interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

The person who is hired will be required to teach courses in 19th and 20th century art history and history of contemporary art. Freshman survey courses are also a required part of the teaching load. New faculty will be expected to develop the department’s art history program with the addition of new courses. If the candidate has a specialty outside of contemporary art, 20th and 19th century Western art, the department will expect that individual to develop new courses in that area of expertise.

The members of the department are committed to the investigation of art and visual culture from a wide range of theoretical perspectives. We seek colleagues with knowledge of visual materials and demonstrated interest in examining such materials and related issues within contexts of culture and history. As a faculty, we are particularly interested in art as a global activity. We especially welcome scholars with a broad critical foundation.
