Interesting. I wasn't aware that the piece programmed such a large space
pixel space. I was just thinking of a global fridge door as very large
geographically, not in pixel size.

Once the concept of the global or at least net-wide fridge door is opened,
so too is the notion of hunger. The net gives us the large fridge door but
it does not yet literally help feed people. The food is 'for the mind and
imagination', which is wonderful, but there is deprivation and starvation
also, in many parts of the world, as we all know. Your piece could also deal
somehow with this, possibly, somehow.

Usually programmed net poetry that takes the fridge-door magnetic poetry
metaphor has already been done. Much of it is very limited. But your piece
opens up new space in that concept that I wouldn't have thought of. I look
forward to seeing where you take it.

Stimulating. Makes me think of the cheese I'm guilty of letting go mouldy in
my fridge. I could work with content degrading over time etc I suppose, but
I seldom get very far working with things that depress me (e.g. hunger,
AIDS, warfare, rape etc.) as much as I realise these kind of themes seem to
be respected in the 'art community'. I have subtitled the piece 'A Portrait
of Democracy'. I'm interested in the dynamics and issues around concepts
like autonomy, authorship and intellectual property and ownership - and
distributed intelligence, which I hope to explore in nV. (We see a lot of
propaganda about having reached the 10 year anniversary of democracy here in
South Africa - I have mixed feelings about it and its illusions and ironies)

Thank you. Me too :-). It depends in part on the willingness of people to
venture in and explore it (nudge nudge wink wink) but so far it looks
promising - there were just over 500 'edits' in the last 24 hours (- most
not by me :-). Some interesting areas are developing which I'd like to make
more accessible, for the time being I've made nV show horisontal and
vertical coordinates of the curent view in the top right-hand corner - which
is perhaps a bit geeky-er than I want the thing to be but will suffice for
the moment.

Anyone interested can drag the background to find:
an interesting 'eye' at 1242, -617,
an interesting composition at -720,-1745
and (what used to be) my stellar Scorpio at 2360, -2000

But what fascinates me most is when more than one person is editing at the
same time and their compositions start impacting on each other, which
reminds of another old shared-text amusement, but I won't go there just yet
(some dhtml texts I recently viewed still has me twitching just thinking
about programmatically cutting text :-)

For the immediate future I want to expand the vocabulary, and refine the mix
of language in the feed. I might also introduce some elements referencing
cartography - but that's for the longer term.
