US DAT RECLAIMS AMERICAN PAVILION
51st VENICE BIENNALE, 2005

ISTANBUL - Secretary-at-Large Randall M. Packer announced plans today
from the Consulate in Istanbul that the US Department of Art &
Technology intends to begin the reclamation of the American Pavilion
at the opening next week of the 51st Venice Biennale, 2005.

Acting on the wishes of Walter L. Clark, founder of the American
Pavilion, who stated in 1930 at the first opening: "it is proposed
that, if the United States government ever creates a Department of
Art, the building will be turned over to the supervision of such a
governmental department."

Secretary-at-Large Packer has notified Biennale President Davide
Croff, asking for his cooperation with the Department's new
initiative to reclaim the American Pavilion and transform it as the
"Virtual Pavilion" - a borderless Pavilion - for the 52nd Venice
Biennale, 2007. The theme of the exhibition will be, "representation
through virtualization."

According to Packer, "We live in historic times: freedom is advancing
from Washington, DC, to the Piazza San Marco. With the "Virtual
Pavilion," we will transcend our physical reality, entering the
medial space in the dream of an aesthetic hyperculture and its
unlimited possibilities - to inhabit this space with a polymorphic
and long-lived presence. And yes, we will prevail!"
