an interactive video piece

Here is some interactive video for you:
http://vispo.com/kearns/modemspeed2.htm . It's called 'Not Negotiating a New
Canadian Constitution' and uses a 1974 video poem by Lionel Kearns, Gordon
Payne, and Peter Huse called 'Negotiating a New Canadian Constitution'.

The interactivity comes about largely via either clicking the video in the
lower left-hand corner or, equivalently, the 'bonk button' at top left.
Repeated clicks and then mousings around reveal different ways to not
negotiate a new Canadian constitution and a different approach to video on
the web. there are also a couple more buttons at top left to adjust time and
volume.

The video is part of a larger work called 'On Lionel Kearns'. If the first
part of 'On Lionel Kearns' at http://vispo.com/kearns is concerned with
binary process, then you might say this is the unary part. The binary theme
is concerned with the on off the yes no the 0 1 the nothing something the
content form the hot cold the ouch oh the sex death the bang bang the the
the. But 'Not Negotiating a New Canadian Constitution' is just plain 'no'.

very good jim, i knew nothing of kearns before experiencing your site.

all his books are available at http://alibris.com used. they're all out of
print. got an email from him today. last week he visited an english lit
class at ubc in vancouver where the hypertext version of his book
Convergences is being studied.

he went his own way as a poet, was interested in video poems and visual
poems and computer poetry way back in the sixties. and there weren't a lot
of poets with similar interests, which is mostly why his poetry has been
neglected. he's adventurous. pretty much only bp Nichol, who was a friend of
Kearns, was doing that sort of stuff also at that time in english canada.
http://vispo.com/kearns/bog2.htm was done in 1965, which is pretty cool.

i know nothing of the constitutional issues of canada, now or in 1976, but
i gert the feeling whatever changes that ere soought were rejected by the
vote of the people.

well, we did draw up a constitution that was signed by all but quebec. but
that was in the eighties. in the seventies, when
http://vispo.com/kearns/modemspeed1.htm was made, there were moves to create
one, but the dialog among the politicians was much as in this piece. quebec
never did sign it, as i said. i think the title was a matter of expediency.
it is more like The Birth of God/uniVerse at
http://vispo.com/kearns/modemspeed.htm , ie, it is more about fundamentals
than consitutions (although a constitution is kind of fundamental to a
country).

the piece was created in the early seventies for the NFB (national film
board) and was aired nationally so i spose the CBC folks thought they needed
a nationalist title. what good is art if it isn't politically relevant and
holds the country together? eh? It is a little known fact that the 5000
mile wide Canada is psychically held together by bad poetry commissioned
primarily by the Canada Council. Everything is so very delicate.

i have a poem about an australian constitutional crisis, on my homepage,
called australia day 2005.
http://www.gu.edu.au/ppages/k_zervos

I don't see it on that page, Komninos.

we are a commonwealth but not a republic.
the queen is on our currency.
our constitution defines the queen of england as our soverign.
the english flag sits in the top left hand corner of the australian flag.

She is on our loonie. The $1 coin. There's a loon on the other side.
