Beginning on September 27, the next series of discussions in the ongoing
Under Fire project will be launched. Topics of conversation will include:
the militarization of urban space, the rhetorics of tracking and targeting,
and the role of the news media in the perpetuation of conflict. To

Fire is a year-long project that explores the organization and
representation of contemporary armed conflict. It involves discussions among
individuals working in politics, theory, criticism, the arts, and
journalism. Contributors have included Akbar Ahmed, John Armitage, Asef
Bayat, Ryan Bishop, Benjamin Bratton, Susan Buck-Morss, Hamid Dabashi,
Manuel DeLanda, James Der Derian, Joy Garnett, Salwa Ghaly, Chris Hables
Gray, Brian Holmes, Thomas Keenan, Mary Keller, Saba Mahmood, Gema Martin
Munoz, Loretta Napoleoni, P.W. Singer, Ana Valdes, and Eyal Weisman. The
project is sponsored by the Witte de With center for contemporary art and V2
