Art (Painting). The Department of Sound, Performance, and Visual Inquiry, a small, dynamic, interdisciplinary program, invites applications for an Assistant Professor position. We seek a painter to teach contemporary approaches to painting at all levels to both art majors and general education students. We are interested in artists with a deep understanding of painting in the context of its contemporary theoretical dialogue, and a desire to expand the dialogue into other areas of the arts and across campus. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build a new painting curriculum that incorporates conceptual depth in at least one area of new/interactive painting practice. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in interactive media, digital processing, and/or programming. Candidates should have a record of artistic accomplishment, an MFA (in hand or expected by May, 2012) and college-level teaching experience. Applications should include a cover letter, 3 letters of reference, CV, digital portfolio, student work (if available) and statement of teaching philosophy. Send all materials to Dawn Nye and Sarah Maline, Co-Chairs, Painting Search Committee, Department of Sound, Performance, and Visual Inquiry, UMF, 224 Main Street, Farmington, ME 04938. Bodhidharma was a Buddhist monk who lived during the 5th/6th century AD. He is traditionally credited as the transmitter of Ch'an (Sanskrit: Dhyāna, Japanese: Zen) to China, and regarded as the first Chinese patriarch. According to Chinese legend, he also began the physical training of the Shaolin monks that led to the creation of Shaolinquan.
