“Papier-Mâchete” is a showcase of artwork created utilizing paper and fiber media. This exhibit will explore the limitless range found in these ubiquitous materials and will celebrate innovations in fiber media. Submissions may be 2D, 3D, video, or installation-based proposals but should display innovative and inventive uses of paper or associated fibers. Traditional techniques such as collage and papier-mâché are discouraged but may be included if they exemplify a unique or transcendent approach to the craft. All works must be primarily composed of paper or analogous fibers, that include but are not limited to, cardboard, cardstock, newspaper, paper pulp, or organic media adapted from wood and fabric. The extended deadline for all submissions is Wednesday, Dec 1st 2010. Hard copies of images, fees, and forms should arrive or be postmarked by this date. Images should be submitted on disc, formatted as JPEGS at 72 dpi and measuring no more than 10" in any dimension. An entry fee of $20.00 must be included with an initial submission up to 5 works. There is a $5.00 fee for each additional submission exceeding these five works. There is no limit to the total number of submissions that an artist can submit and fees may be waived for those who convey genuine need. Fees will be utilized for operational costs and awards. Entries rendered after office hours can be placed in our mail slot located at 200 W. Marshall St. Richmond, VA 23220. Selected works will be on display from January 7th until February 18th 2010. All participants are eligible to win up to $1000 in cash and prizes provided by X-ACTO and Plaza Artist Materials. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced by a group of jurors during the First Friday opening exhibition scheduled for January 7th at 7pm. Acceptance and rejection letters will be sent on Monday, November 29th. All work must be delivered to Gallery5 by Saturday, December 18th. ABOUT OUR JURORS

[b]Aaron McIntosh[/b]
Aaron McIntosh is a professional artist based in Virginia and MFA Graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. He received a BFA from the Appalachian Center for Craft and has shown his work nationally. He creates art that explores heteronormative ideals of love, romance, sex and sexuality utilizing a diverse array of objects, design motifs and texts, sourcing patterned cloth, lace, wallpaper, valentines, romance novels and erotic magazines. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Fibers at James Madison University.

[b]Richard Waller[/b]
Richard Waller is executive director of University Museums, including the Marsh Art Gallery, the Joel and Lila Harnett Print Study Center and the Lora Robins Gallery of Design from Nature. He received his master of fine arts degree from Yale University after graduating from Mankato State University in Minnesota. He also received a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Before joining the University in 1990, Waller worked at the Brooklyn Museum of Art for 19 years and taught at New York's Parsons School of Design. He has been a curator, judge and organizer of many historical and contemporary art exhibitions and has written extensively on visual art.

[b]Amie Oliver [/b]
Amie Oliver is a current board member of 1708 Gallery who recieved an MFA at Bowling Green State University and a BA at Mississippi State University. She has exhibited her mixed media paintings, drawings and bookworks in solo exhibitions from the east coast to the west and between Maine and Florida in the USA. Her work has also been exhibited in Paris, Germany, S. Korea, Scotland, China, and Tibet. She has been awarded artist international and stateside fellowships through the Virginia Center of Creative Arts, The Vermont Studio School, and the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris, France. Her work is currently included in numerous public, private and corporate collections.
